Why I love Snow: Always

As I drove home late from work, from a frustrating meeting, I looked at the snow that had already fallen on the ground, and the snow still falling from the sky, and found myself smiling, saying thank you.

The day in and of itself, seemed to carry little to smile about, and even less to be thankful for. And perhaps that’s how many of you feel about snow. But for me, snow no matter when it falls carries a reminder and a sense of promise.

Winter is often ugly, there is little color, and most plants show little life, and then a blanket of snow, falls gently from the sky to cover all of the dead, all of the dirty, and for but a brief moment, makes everything sparkle white. For me, snow is a reminder or fresh starts, forgiveness, and peace.

It forces us to slow down, keeps us from getting through our busy schedules, and buries everything that it touches.

So as I drove home from a very long day, I was thankful for the reminder of newness. And the thought that no matter how ugly things become, they can be covered, they can start over. So next time that the snow falls, don’t think about shoveling, getting bread and milk, or having to cancel some plans. Instead remember the promise of new beginnings, of forgiveness, and hope, you just may find yourself looking forward to snow storms!
