The purpose of Amber Kane Scarves: Building Confidence

Amber Kane scarves

I always said that I didn’t care about fashion. It seemed like something that didn’t matter, that didn’t have purpose, and didn’t make an impact on the world.

Then I started designing scarves, and I couldn’t stop. I’ve always had a strong desire…. pull to create, and textiles was where I my imagination found it’s home.

While I’ve come to learn that fashion does have a purpose:

‘Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak.’ – Rachel Zoe

‘I don’t design clothes. I design dreams.’ – Ralph Lauren

‘Fashion is instant language.’ Miuccia Prada

When you feel good you’re able to do good.

However, I wanted there to be more. While the creation of each scarf, is vulnerable, challenging, and carries a great deal of meaning for me, I wanted to allow you to feel empowered with each purchase that you make.

As a teacher, I’m reminded all too often of how cruel students can be to one another, and to themselves. Their words and actions, can have a lasting impact, make others feel unsafe and afraid, and cause confidence and self esteem to plummet.

Last year I heard Elissa Kravetz speak about The Farley Project, as she shared her story of being bullied, and her mission to bring more love and kindness into schools, I wanted to jump out of my chair. However, she was still speaking, and that seemed inappropriate. So I waited until she was finished, quickly followed her to her table, and introduced myself.

The farley project

Skype conversations and emails followed, as well as my commitment to give 10% of the proceeds from scarf sales to The Farley Project. You are no longer just buying a scarf.

You’re buying, Confidence for yourself and young women and men

You’re buying armor to help you go after your dreams, and providing tools to help students believe in theirs.

You’re buying freedom from fear, ridicule, and painful words and actions

You’re buying freedom for yourself, and the next generation.
