What to do When your shoe Breaks

I was about 5 minutes into my 20 minute walk to work when my shoe snapped. They were cute strappy wedges, not at all the  kind of shoe that is easy to walk in once the strap breaks. I had three options, none were  great.
1. Turn around, hobble home with broken shoe, and change shoes.
2 take shoes off, walk home, hope that I don’t step on broken glass.
3. Keep walking to work, be on time for work, and then spend the day in broken shoes, or hope that the dollar store sells some fashionable flip flops.
I sprang for option 1, plus a text to my boss. The walk home wasn’t graceful or fast. 15 minutes later, shoes were switched and I was heading back downtown to work. Had I been more in the middle of my way to work, like 1/2 a mile in, I’m pretty sure that it would have called for some serious creative thinking, and I would have been furious that for some reason I’d taken the roll of packing tape, that I always have in my bag, out of my bag, because you never know when you’re going to have to ship something….
My giant vegan leather bag is like a treasure trove, of random things that I carry with me everyday, but only need like once every few years, but you better believe that if I”m around and you have an outfit malfunction, I can fix you. Like that time that I was at a friends wedding and one of the bridesmaids swooped over to my table asking if I happened to have a needle and thread, her dress ripped. You bet I did, after a few minutes in the bathroom, she was ready to hit the dance the floor.
In the event that I’m not around when you hear the dreaded ripping sound of fabric, and assuming that you don’t carry packing tape, needle, thread, pliers, cork screw, and the like around in your bag, the next best thing is to always have a scarf with you. Which , since we’re friends, I’m pretty sure that you do.
Scarves are great accessories and they’re a wonderful way to keep the cold AC off of your shoulders, they’re also a great way to cover up the coffee that you spilled right after you stubbed your toe on the coffee table as you ran to take you barking dog outside to go to the bathroom ( or maybe that’s just me). They also cover a slight or not so slight rip or tare. So, you can leave your sewing kit and tool box behind, but I”d recommend always having a scarf.
