What do you want?

What do you want for your birthday?

If you have some cool people in your life, as I”m sure that you do. A few weeks before your birthday they start to ask, what do you want?

Maybe you’re good at answering this question, I”m not. It’s not because I don’t want anything, or because I’m on mission to own nothing, or sticking my nose up at consumerism. It’s because I usually buy what I want when I want it.

That makes me sound a bit like a spoiled brat, but the truth is, you work hard, and sometimes, or like once a month, you need to reward yourself.

When I was a kid, I saved ALL of my money, I mean ALL OF IT. I liked having big piles of cash, who doesn’t, so the more one dollar bills the better.

I still save my money, but I’ve also worked hard at allowing myself to spend it on things that I love, things make my daily life better, more comfortable, and more beautiful. One of the things that I love to buy most is…….

YARN. ( I’m sounding cooler and cooler by the minute) But really, I love buying yarn, because I love making things. There is very little that I find more enjoyable than sitting down at the loom and creating.

And then,  once I’ve reach the end, I get to unroll 9 yards of freshly woven fabric. ( that always feels a bit like magic)

So this year, for my birthday, I want to share the magic with you. And the scarves are magic, well made ( one thread at a time), and one-of-a-kind.

You want things that are hard to find, that no one else has, but everyone wants. Things that whisper compliments to you as you walk. Things that make you feel like if you focus hard enough, you can do anything. Things that make you believe that you can save the world, and then that go along on the journey as you do.

I started making scarves because I had a deep need to create, one that was too hard to ignore. I’ve kept creating them for 8 years because the voice that gives me ideas is always whispering in my ear, and because the way that the scarves make people look and feel, is my own way of saving the world, one person, one scarf at a time.

J Peterman says, ” Clearly, people want things that make their lives the way they wish they were. “

What kind of life do you want? Go and get it!

Today, I went to the beach with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my
4 year old daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.”
She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was
a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back!
LoL I know this is completely off topic but I had to
    tell someone!
