How to Organize your Closet in 20 Seconds
You love adventure , change, and won’t back down from a challenge, but the packing and the preparing are another story.
Remember when you moved into your last house or when you helped to pack your kid up to head off to college. The packing is never fun, it never goes as smoothly as you hoped, and I swear , the minute that you start putting things into boxes, those things start to have babies. Suddenly, you have way more stuff than you could ever image.
A few months ago, on my last day of teaching…. because that’s a great day to move... my husband and I packed everything that we owned into a moving truck. This in and of itself was a challenge, as we got a truck that said it was made to move two full bedrooms, and we were moving a whole house. But really, what defines something as a full bedroom, I still don’t know.
In the process of packing we got rid of a lot of “stuff,” and continue to get rid of more as we unpack.
We moved into an old house in the city, which means, tiny closets, and I mean tiny. As I decided what was going to find it’s way into the closet and what wasn’t, I realized that I had a lot of clothes that, a. didn’t fit properly, or b. I didn’t even like.
I kept them thinking that one day they just might fit, or by some miracle I might just like. But that was just taking up space in closet, and making it take longer to get dressed in the morning.
Stylist Hilary Rushford, shared this simple technique to clean out your closet.
How to clean out your closet in 20 seconds
Grab a ribbon, tie in the front of your closet. Each time that you wear something, once you put it back in your closet, move it in front of the ribbon. After a month passes, you should seriously considering getting rid of the things that are still behind the ribbon.
Now, go get your ribbon, and start cleaning out your closet.
